What happens to the corners at odd angles?
The canvas grows to fit the rotated image; empty corners are transparent (PNG/WebP) or white (JPG).

Does rotating 90 degrees reduce quality?
A 90-degree or 180-degree rotation is a lossless reorientation of the existing pixels, so there's no meaningful quality change. Free-angle rotation is different: because the image is re-sampled at an angle, tiny softening can occur, though it's rarely noticeable at normal viewing size.
What happens to the corners when I rotate at a free angle?
Rotating by an angle other than 90 degrees leaves triangular gaps at the corners of the bounding box, which are typically filled with a background or left transparent depending on the format. For JPG the fill is a solid color; for a transparent PNG the corners can stay transparent.
Is flipping the same as rotating?
